A man in China was stuck on a glass-bottom bridge 100-metres up high in the mountains on May 7.
An image that circulated on China's social media platform, Weibo, showed the man clinging amid gaping holes in the bridge.
According to Xinhua News, the incident happened at the Piyanshan Glass Footbridge in Longjing, Northeast China, after "record-breaking gales" had shattered the glass panels of the bridge.
Apple Daily reported that according to the Longjing municipal party committee, winds that day had been equivalent to a Category One hurricane, reaching up to 93 miles an hour (149km/h).
Rescue
Xinhua News reported that firefighters, police, and staffers arrived shortly after on the scene.
According to BBC, the tourist was able to crawl back to safety with the help of staff.
The man was subsequently conveyed to the hospital and is currently receiving psychological counselling.
No other injuries were reported; the bridge has also since been closed until further notice.
Calls for more safety checks
Chinese netizens called for more safety checks of glass-bottomed bridges following the incident, with some questioning on Weibo if the novelty and adventure the attraction supposedly brings outweighs the risks.
Others cited the incident as another reason why they'd never step foot on a glass-bottomed bridge.
The topic has garnered over four million views on Weibo, according to Xinhua News.
