52 men in S'pore, aged 16 to 65, arrested for being suspected unlawful society members

Police investigations are ongoing.

The police arrested 52 men, aged 16 to 65, between Dec. 30, 2020 and Jan. 3, 2021.

They were arrested for being suspected members of unlawful societies.

Investigations are ongoing

According to a police news release, the 52 men were arrested during a two-week island-wide operation from Dec. 21, 2020 to Jan. 3, 2021 by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department and the seven Police Land Divisions.

Proactive checks were conducted at various congregation hotspots, including F&B outlets and shopping malls, to keep gang activities in check.

A total of 151 men were arrested during the entire operation.

Police said that they will continue to monitor the situation and conduct targeted enforcement operations to suppress gang activities that threaten public safety.

Investigations are ongoing.

If convicted of being members of an unlawful society under section 14(3) of the Societies Act, one can be fined up to S$5,000 or jailed for up to three years, or both.
