Photos and videos of the scene made the rounds online.
The police told Mothership that they were alerted to a case of voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon at 221 Boon Lay Place.
The 23-year-old victim suffered injuries to his face and head and was conscious when conveyed to Ng Teng Fong General Hospital.
The FairPrice supermarket was temporarily closed in the day but a spokesperson said store operations are unaffected.
When Mothership visited the place at around 10pm, the supermarket was going about business as usual.
The spokesperson added that staff rendered "immediate assistance", and ensured that the safety of shoppers was not compromised.
One shop owner named Ani who was stationed near the entrance to the supermarket told Mothership that she initially saw two men fighting.
Both men headed into the supermarket and after a scuffle, one man with a knife in his hand ran away, leaving the other bloody and injured inside.
In a statement late on Oct. 7, the police informed Mothership that an 18-year-old man was arrested in relation to the case.
Police investigations are ongoing.
