You may have seen a viral Facebook post, titled "Lesson from one of my worst decisions", written by a man who bought his car when he was 19.
Gabriel Wong wrote that the car had cost him an average of S$3,000 a month, not including the salary he would pay his driver in the first two years of owning the car.
This was money he could have invested into his future, he said.
And 10 years on, after the COE has expired, he decided to scrap it as it serves as a reminder of his "foolishness".
The post, which has gotten over 8,000 shares at the time of writing, can be seen here.
"Lesson from one of my epic decisions"
Following this post, another man in Singapore has decided to share his own version of the lessons he learnt from buying his car at a young age.
The title of his post? "Lesson from one of my epic decisions."
Jong Yang opened his post saying "nearly 9 years with this car and I won't say goodbye...", a rather similar opener to Wong's, which reads "Nearly 10 years with this car and time to say goodbye...".
Jong Yang said that he had purchased his car at the age of 22 when he didn't have savings, and how it "cost him his everything".
He even pointed out that "he could have invested the money into his future".
However, where he differs from Wong is that he decided to renew the COE for this car when it ended three years ago.
In a declaration of love for his car, Jong Yang proclaimed: "I have to renew it at 46k cos EVO IS DA BEST!!!"
