Pets in Malaysia are being issued their own passports and this revelation has people both inside and outside of the country going gaga and nodding in approval.
A pet owner in Malaysia recently put up a tweet showing his cat with its own Malaysia passport.
The caption read: “also today Floof Boi is officially a Catizen of Malaysia. p.s: apparently ugly passport/IC photos does not only apply to humans.”
But only if the pet was just as amused:
Context
Funnily enough, this revelation is surprising to many in Malaysia because it is not common knowledge despite this initiative not being a new thing at all.
Pet passports have been available in Malaysia since 2010.
It is issued to four types of animals: Cats, dogs, rabbits and horses.
The animal identification card was launched under the Malaysian Animal Traceability System (MATs) Project.
Its aim is to build a formal animal identification database system to help control animal diseases.
It has effectively been a programme that has been ongoing for a decade for pet owners there.
The cost to get one for a pet along with a microchip and vaccination is only RM85 (S$27.80) and is available at Hospital Veterinar Kuala Lumpur at Cheras.
