The weather has been rather erratic of late.
With some days being unbearably hot and others seeing sudden downpours.
The heavy rain in the morning on Aug. 14 has resulted in flash floods in some parts of Singapore.
At Craig Road, the traffic was "not passable" at 10am due to the rain, national water agency PUB updated in a Facebook post earlier today (Aug. 14).
Earlier in late-July, the Meteorological Service Singapore said that the first half of August will be a drier month as compared to July.
However, it also added that there will be widespread thundery showers with gusty winds due to Sumatra squalls for two or three days in the morning during this period.
Associate Professor at Singapore University of Social Sciences, Koh Tieh Yong, explained to The Straits Times that the heavy rains were triggered by the past few days of hot weather.
Water evaporates in a squall as a result and precipitates to form a large amount of rain.
This is common during the southwest monsoon season that happens between May and September every year.
