The Ministry of Health (MOH) confirmed 908 new cases of Covid-19 infection today (Aug. 5).

This brings the total number of cases to 54,254.

New places visited by Covid-19 cases

Several new locations have been added to the list of places visited by Covid-19 cases during their infectious period, i.e. 14 days.

These include:

  • IMM mall
  • Popular bookstore at Jurong Point

Breakdown of new cases

Cases residing in dormitories: 903

903 of the new cases are Work Permit holders residing in foreign worker dormitories.

Of these, the vast majority are dormitory residents who were tested during their isolation/quarantine period, even though they are asymptomatic.

They are amongst the final batch of workers being cleared and they come from dormitories with a relatively high prevalence of Covid-19, said the health ministry.

MOH said that it expects the daily case counts to be high for the coming days before tapering down as the Inter-agency Taskforce completes the dormitory clearance.

The health ministry said that it "remain on track" to clear all the dormitories by Aug. 7, with the exception of a few standalone blocks in the dormitories that serve as quarantine facilities.

There are presently about 9,700 workers in these quarantine facilities who will have to serve out their 14-day isolation periods, and be subjected to an exit test before they are able to resume work.

Imported cases: 4

There are four new imported cases, all of whom had been placed on Stay-Home Notice in dedicated facilities upon arriving in Singapore.

They had been tested while serving their SHN.

All four imported cases arrived in Singapore from India on 22 July.

Amongst them, three — cases 53877, 54265 and 54266 — are Dependant’s Pass holders.

The remaining case, case 53756, is a Short-Term Visit Pass holder whose application to enter Singapore was approved as she is an elderly whose family are Singapore residents.

Cases in the community: 1

It was reported earlier today that there were four cases in the community, but three cases have since been reclassified as cases residing in dormitories.

As such, there is only one new case in the community on Aug. 5, which is currently unlinked.

Case 54284 was identified from the proactive screening of workers in essential services who are living outside the dormitories.

A serological test was conducted on case 54284 and the result has come back positive, which indicates a likely past infection.

Discharged cases & cases in care facilities

314 cases were discharged from hospitals or community isolation facilities, taking the total of recovered patients to 47,768.

6,333 cases are isolated and cared for in community facilities, while 126 confirmed cases remain in hospital. 27 have passed away due to complications from Covid-19 infection.

There is currently one patient in the intensive care unit.
