Singaporean actor-singer Aliff Aziz has pleaded guilty to theft and behaving in a disorderly manner in public on Friday (Aug. 7).
A third charge of stealing a pack of cigarettes and a lighter from a man at Plaza Singapura's Starbucks will be considered during sentencing.
First case
According to court documents seen by Mothership, the first case happened on June 7, 2019.
At around midnight, Aliff, 29, had met Indonesian actress Raja Yunika Perdhana Putri, 32, in her hotel room at Studio M Hotel.
They met to discuss how she could help to further his singing career in Indonesia.
Aliff was working as a freelance singer based in Singapore and Malaysia at that time.
After about an hour, Raja went up to the second level of the hotel room to rest, leaving her handbag at the first floor.
While she was resting, Aliff opened her handbag and took the money that was stashed inside.
He stole S$300 and one million rupiah (S$94).
Raja woke up at 3am and found that the money was missing.
When she phoned Aliff, he initially denied stealing the money. She lodged a police report later that day.
Aliff subsequently admitted that he had stolen the cash as he was in need of money.
He had changed the rupiah into Singapore dollars at a moneychanger and then spent the money on food and transport.
He has since repaid S$400 to Raja.
If convicted for theft, Aliff can be jailed for up to seven years and fined.
Second case
The second case he pleaded guilty to happened a few months after.
At about 5:30am on Nov. 10, 2019 near Orchard Towers, two police officers heard a commotion and saw Aliff, who was intoxicated, shouting loudly and gesticulating towards another person.
The police officers advised Aliff to calm down and he eventually complied.
But the officers followed him from a distance to ensure that he did not cause more trouble.
At around 6:25am, Aliff began shouting loudly and gesticulating towards passers-by.
He also walked towards a taxi and kicked the front left portion of its bumper. The taxi, however, sustained no damage.
Aliff was once again advised to calm down, but this time, he continued behaving in a disorderly manner.
He ran into an acquaintance and they began walking together, whilst being trailed by the officers.
The two men then got into a scuffle and began pushing each other and shouting.
The police intervened and arrested Aliff.
First-time offenders convicted of behaving in a disorderly manner in public can be jailed for up to six months and fined up to S$2,000.
Repeat offenders can be jailed for up to a year and fined up to S$5,000.
Will be assessed at IMH
Aliff's lawyer, Murali Pillai, had asked for a mandatory treatment order suitability report, reported CNA.
Murali added that Aliff was labouring under a psychiatric condition and regrets his actions.
District Judge Victor Yeo called for the report.
This means that Aliff will be required to attend an assessment at the Institute of Mental Health (IMH).
According to The Straits Times, he is now out on bail of S$10,000 and will return to court on Sep. 14.
