With 74.62 per cent of the vote, Senior Minister Tharman Shanmugaratnam and his team in Jurong GRC was the best-performing People's Action Party (PAP) team in this General Election.
Tharman gave a speech afterwards, flanked by his team of Rahayu Mahzam, Shawn Huang, Xie Yao Quan and Tan Wu Meng.
Also present was Ivan Lim, the PAP candidate who withdrew his candidacy before Nomination Day.
Tharman credited Lim for his contribution on the ground in the initial stages.
Tharman said:
"Thank you very much for the trust that you've given us. We pledge to work even harder, particularly at these difficult times, to help each and every family with its needs, and to build up Jurong as a strong community, a better community for all of us.
I want to give credit to the opposition team from RDU, they fought a good fight, they did creditably, I'd like to thank them for the contest. And I'd really like to say finally that we are part of a national team in Jurong.
Our own strength comes from our teamwork, amongst all of us, including our two new candidates and including Ivan Lim who worked very hard on the ground in the initial stages. We really appreciate each other's contribution to the team...so thank you very much once again and thanks of course to our activists and volunteers who've really been wonderful all these years."
The opposing Red Dot United team, comprising Michelle Lee, Ravi Philemon, Liyana Dhamirah, Alec Tok and Nicholas Tang secured 25.38 per cent of the vote in its maiden contest.
Besides Tharman, all five other teammates have also thanked Jurong residents for their support and promised to serve.
