While Tampines GRC is not one of the hotly contested constituencies for this general election, it has garnered some attention as a result of Heng Swee Keat's recent shift to East Coast GRC.

New Tampines PAP team

Heng has been the anchor minister for Tampines GRC for a decade before he passed the baton to Minister of Environment and Water Resources Masagos Zulkifli.

The team also welcomed Senior Minister of State for National Development and Trade and Industry, Koh Poh Koon.

In all, the new Tampines PAP team now consists of Masagos, Koh as well as incumbent MPs Baey Yam Keng, Cheng Li Hui and Desmond Choo.

New team meets enthusiastic Tampines residents

On Jul 5, the sixth campaign day of GE2020, the Tampines PAP team was spotted at Blk 201C Tampines Market and Food Centre at around 11am.

All members were present but they were interacting with residents separately on their own at various eatery shops and hawker centres in the area.

Despite Heng's departure, the new PAP team seems to be going strong as they were well received by the residents at Blk 201C.

Masagos greeted residents with his hand placed on his left chest and a bow in replacement of the usual Salam in light of Covid-19.

Some residents were spotted to be rather enthusiastic to see the PAP candidates.

Another patron at the hawker centre also shouted "PAP!" twice in support of Koh despite him being new to the constituency.

The PAP candidates also gave out PAP flags and flyers to people they met at the weekend walkabout.

A few residents also requested for selfies with the candidates.

Earlier in the week, the team has also released their GRC manifesto on July 2 and has been engaging with voters online as well.

Heng also said on his Facebook that Tampines is in good hands and he has faith in this new team.

This new Tampines PAP team will be facing off National Solidarity Party's team of five which include the party's president Reno Fong, and vice-president Mohamad Ridzwan.
