The month of July saw much rain and thunderstorms.
It will be a different story in August.
Warmer temperatures
According to the Meteorological Service Singapore (MSS), the first fortnight of August is predicted to be warmer and less wet than July.
Daily maximum temperatures can range between 33°C and 34°C on most days, with temperatures peaking at 35°C on a few days.
Meanwhile, daily temperatures can range from 25°C to 34°C.
These conditions are due to the prevailing Southwest monsoon conditions, where low-level winds will blow from the southeast or southwest, which MSS said will persist into the month of August.
Due to low-pressure systems over the South China Sea in the first week of August, low-level winds over Singapore and the surroundings are forecast to strengthen and blow from the west on some days.
Nighttime is expected to be warm and humid as well, with temperatures expected to be around 28°C on several days.
This is caused by southeasterly winds that blow in warm air from the sea over land.
Drier conditions
August will see drier conditions and less rain too, as the monsoon rain band is forecasted to shift northward and away from Singapore.
However, due to solar heating of the land areas, short-duration moderate to heavy thundery showers can still be expected on some days over parts of the island between the late morning and afternoon.
Meanwhile, widespread thundery showers with gusty winds due to Sumatra squalls are expected before dawn and in the morning on two or three days.
