5 more from group of 18, including hosts, charged for Sengkang social gathering during CB period

A group of 18 persons are being charged for non-compliance with safe distancing measures (SDM) during the Circuit Breaker, under the Covid-19 (Temporary Measures) (Control Order) Regulations 2020.

Five more members of the group were charged on July 23, a day after eight others were charged on July 22.

Four of the accused, Felisa Chua Jia Xuan, Priscilia Tan Sze Hui, Poh Yang Ting, and Ong Shi Hong Cassie, indicated their intention to plead guilty.

The remaining accused is Leong Chee Mun, who is the sole owner of the flat where the gathering took place, according to The Straits Times (ST).

Leong and Ong were both charged for permitting the others to enter their place of residence without a valid reason.

Some of the accused donned hoodies and sunglasses as they left the court building.

According to ST, the eight individuals charged on July 22 intend to plead guilty.

They are: Cavin Liow, 20; Kho Zi Ting, 27; Jackson Tan, 30; Moey Kai Yi, 18; Jasmin Tan, 30; Low Wei Hao, 25; Mandy Tan, 26; and Myanmar national Thant Thaw Kuang, 19.

The group, which comprised 17 Singaporeans and one Singapore Permanent Resident, are aged between 18 and 37 years old.

The other members of the group are expected to be charged tomorrow, July 24.

Details of the gathering

On May 8, 2020, a couple residing at Compassvale Crescent in Sengkang invited eight men and eight women to their place of residence for a social gathering.

The 16 people visited the unit between 9:30pm on May 8, 2020 and 1am on May 9, 2020.

All 16 of them will be charged for violating the restrictions on leaving their place of residence without a valid reason and for violating the prohibition on social gatherings.

The Compassvale Crescent couple will be charged for violating the restrictions on permitting other individuals to enter their ordinary place of residence without a valid reason, and for violating the prohibition on social gatherings.
