The Workers' Party has won Sengkang GRC with 52.13 per cent of the vote.
This means that the People's Action Party team, comprising Ng Chee Meng, Lam Pin Min, Amrin Amin and Raymond Lye, was narrowly defeated by the WP team.
In a press conference held earlier today (July 11), Ng said that the results "didn't quite go the way [they] had wanted".
However, he reiterated their "heartfelt thank you" to volunteers and activists who have stepped forward to help in the campaign.
He also said his team will "have to evaluate and regroup and see how [they] can do better in the days to come".
Amrin Amin & Lam Pin Min
In a Facebook post, Amrin Amin congratulated the Workers' Party and thanked the PAP's supporters in Sengkang GRC.
Amrin, who was previously an MP in Sembawang GRC, also said that it has been his honour to serve in Parliament from 2015 to 2020, and wishes Sengkang GRC his best.
"The people of Sengkang have spoken," he said, adding that he respects and accepts their choice.
"I've tried my best," he said.
He also called Sengkang West his "baby", and thanked everyone who has helped make his stay there so memorable.
"I am grateful for the close friendship we have forged and I will always cherish it," he said.
Sengkang West used to be an SMC, before it became part of Sengkang GRC for this recent general election.
Loss of three office-holders
The PAP team's loss in Sengkang GRC meant the party lost three political office-holders from its 4G leadership.
Ng, who served as Labour chief and Minister in the Prime Minister's Office, was supposed to be the anchor minister for the four-member PAP team.
Lam, who served as Senior Minister of State for Health and Transport, was a 14-year MP, and helmed Sengkang West SMC in the 2011 and 2015 elections.
Amrin, who served as Senior Parliamentary Secretary for Home Affairs and Health, was previously from Sembawang GRC.
Lye, a lawyer, chairs the Punggol East Citizens' Consultative Committee.
In a press conference on July 11, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said that he was "naturally disappointed" that the PAP lost a GRC in Sengkang. However, he encouraged the team to continue serving the party and Singapore in different ways.
