You might have read about a man's Facebook post lauding Sheng Siong for giving money to a funeral.

While some assumed this was a recent initiative in response to the recent Covid-19 situation, it turns out it has been going on for quite a while.

Some of the commenters on Facebook also vouched for this practice as they were past recipients of the supermarket chain's generosity:

In response to queries by Mothership, a Sheng Siong spokesperson confirmed that the supermarket chain has been doing this for 30 years:

"This has been our practice for over 30 years. When our staff is aware of funerals near our stores, they will offer condolences to the family. This is Sheng Siong’s way of keeping the 'kampung spirit' alive."

What a beautiful gesture indeed!
