On June 29, Minister for Trade and Industry, Chan Chun Sing, introduced the People's Action Party (PAP) team that is contesting in Tanjong Pagar GRC and Radin Mas SMC.
The team that will be running in Tanjong Pagar GRC consists of two ministers, Chan and Indranee Rajah, as well as Joan Pereira and two new candidates Eric Chua and Alvin Tan.
Assistant secretary-general at the National Trades Union Congress, Melvin Yong, will be running in the Radin Mas SMC.
Chan said that Yong is "no stranger" in Radin Mas as he was the town council chairman for Radin Mas SMC and Tanjong Pagar GRC.
New candidates are not stranger to the community
Two-term Member of Parliament (MP), Chia Shi-Lu, and three-term MP at Radin Mas SMC Sam Tan, were not part of the line-up for the upcoming General Election.
Chua will be taking over the Queenstown area from Chia and said that he has been a volunteer in the constituency for the past 15 years.
Alvin Tan will be taking over Moulmein-Cairnhill from Yong and revealed that he is also a resident where he serves.
He also indicated an interest in bringing green initiatives such as Our Green Pek Kio to raise awareness of climate change to the residents.
In response to recent walkabouts by Progress Singapore Party (PSP), Chan said that the focus of the team is on the needs of the residents.
"We don't bring lots of people go around, do a show," Chan added.
Chan also said that the team has been fanning across the constituency to serve residents during this period and not focusing on showing members of the public that the team as a whole.
"Results will speak for itself," Chan said.
