Julie Tan is not one for mincing her words, if past events have taught us anything.
More recently, the local actress tackled the issue of sexual harassment, after receiving disparaging messages from a follower.
Tan posted screenshots of the conversation between her and the follower on June 13, according to 8 Days.
After an obscene request from the follower, Tan questioned "who gave him the right" to talk to her in such a manner.
The follower then justified his message by saying he thought she wouldn't respond.
Subsequently, Tan shared her dilemma with the rest of her followers: By telling him off, it actually encouraged him, as he had gotten the attention he came for.
The words in Chinese read:
"I didn't mean it, please forgive me. I'm very near to Singapore that I can just drive over if I feel like visiting. You used to be a child actor yes?
I am Zhu Bajie (a character in Chinese novel Monkey King) but also your average uncle. You are too beautiful. You were even more beautiful at 18, but beautiful now too. If I could marry you, I would't mind dying 10 years early. But I don't think that's possible.
[Tan's reply]
I feel that you would not remember me if I spoke to you respectfully, because I'm not Wu Chun (a Taiwanese singer/actor). I'm just a normal person. So normal that I eat beef hor fun at Geylang. There are others like me too."
Tan also posted a screenshot of the follower's profile, and pointed out that such men should be educated.
Correct.
