On Apr. 11, a two-liner post by one Linda H-Ling gathered widespread attention on Facebook.

Ling photographed a number of staff, who she claimed to be from FairPrice, retrieving trolleys by the roadside.

She pointed out that the staff had to work extra, just because some shoppers did things for their own convenience.

FairPrice Jurong Point was tagged in her post.

500 reports in 2020 so far

In response to queries by Mothership, a FairPrice spokesperson confirmed that it was their staff in the photo.

However, the organisation is unable to ascertain the incident's date and location.

FairPrice urged shoppers to be responsible by returning trolleys after use, and added that this is a "perennial" issue that they have been trying to address.

More than 500 reports of abandoned trolleys have been made so far this year.

In 2019, FairPrice received more than 3,000 reports, while 2018 saw about 4,000 reports.

Members of the public who find abandoned trolleys may report them on the OneService app, or contact FairPrice through the customer hotline number at 6552 2722.

You can also email them at general.feedback@fairprice.com.sg to expedite the process.

"Public education and being socially responsible is key to addressing this issue and we hope that members of the public will continue to do their part and work with us towards creating a more gracious and caring society," the spokesperson said.
