According to the Ministry of Health's update on Tuesday (Mar. 10), an imported case of Covid-19, stayed at the Raffles Hotel Singapore, prior to his hospitalisation.
Case 154 had travelled to Switzerland and UK before arriving in S'pore on Mar. 6
In the update from yesterday, MOH added that Case 154 is a 52-year-old male British national is an imported case who arrived in Singapore on Mar. 6, 2020 and stayed at the Raffles Hotel Singapore.
Before arriving in Singapore, he had travelled to Switzerland from Feb. 26 February to Feb. 28, 2020.
In addition, he has been in the United Kingdom (UK) between Feb. 29 and Mar. 5, 2020.
Presented with symptoms on Mar. 8 and tested positive for Covid-19 on Mar. 9
The 52-year-old reported an onset of symptoms on Mar. 8 and saw the doctor at Raffles Hospital on the same day.
He was referred to NCID on Mar. 8 and test results confirmed his Covid-19 infection on Mar. 9.
According to statements by MOH and Raffles Hotel, the 52-year-old British national was "mostly in his suite during his stay".
He is currently warded in an isolation room at National Centre for Infectious Diseases (NCID).
Statement from Raffles Hotel
In response to queries by Mothership, Christian Westbeld, General Manager for Raffles Hotel Singapore confirmed that an in-house guest has been diagnosed with Covid-19, as of Tuesday (Mar.10):
As of 10 March 2020, we have received official confirmation that an in-house guest has been diagnosed with COVID-19. The guest is an imported case and was mostly in his suite during his stay. He is currently warded at a government hospital.
The health and well-being of our guests and colleagues are our top priority. We have been undertaking the necessary measures of contact tracing and working with the authorities on this, while ensuring that the hotel is thoroughly deep cleaned and disinfected.
We have adopted all precautionary operational measures set by the government to-date and will continue to monitor the COVID-19 situation closely.
Westbeld mentioned that the hotel is being deep cleaned and disinfected while contact tracing is underway.
Total number of Covid-19 cases in S'pore at 166
6 new cases of Covid-19 were announced on Mar. 10, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in Singapore to 166.
Of these 166, 39 cases are linked to the cluster from the private dinner at SAFRA Jurong cluster that was held on Feb. 15.
This cluster is currently the largest for Covid-19 cases in Singapore.
