The Progress Singapore Party (PSP) announced that it would be suspending the membership of one of its members, Jan Chan, with "immediate effect."
In a statement shared on Facebook on March 21, PSP stated that internal investigations are being conducted for actions made in Chan's "personal capacity."
PSP added that it is not linked to the NUS Atheist Society, and that it will work to ensure that all its members "keep within the boundaries of the law."
Former PSP member, former NSP organising secretary
Chan can be seen in a number of photos on PSP's Facebook page, wearing the party polo shirt together with other members.
A person named Jan Chan was a member of the National Solidarity Party (NSP) in 2015, according to the Straits Times.
However, he did not appear to have run as a candidate in the general election of 2015.
Chan had his own membership page on NSP's website, where it stated that he was a former Raffles Junior College student and studied Mathematics & Computer Science in the National University of Singapore.
Chan, who served as the NSP's Organising Secretary, was also said to have worked as a technology consultant in a "global MNC."
However, the page appears to have been taken down.
A video on YouTube shows someone named Jan Chan appearing at the 2017 protest in Hong Lim Park, making a speech criticising the decision to hike the price of water.
NUS Atheist Society
The NUS Atheist Society Facebook group recently made headlines after it posted a photo of the Holy Bible and the Qur'an, accompanied by the caption "For use during toilet paper shortages."
On March 19, after Facebook had restricted access to the photo, the group shared another post that said "Thanks for convicting us of thoughtcrime."
He added that the police would be investigating the post.
