Malaysia enforced a nationwide lockdown on Mar. 16 to prevent further spread of Covid-19 in the country.

From Mar. 18 till Mar. 31, all tourists and foreign visitors coming into Malaysia will be barred from entry.

Additionally, Malaysians are also barred from travelling abroad.

Malaysians working in Singapore and Thailand can't commute

According to Immigration director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud as reported by Malaysiakini, Malaysians who commute daily to Singapore for work cannot do so until the end of the restriction order.

He told Malaysiakini via a Whatsapp message: “Not allowed from tomorrow (March 18) until March 31."

In a report by Malay Mail, Khairul clarified that Malaysians working in Thailand are also not allowed to commute during the two weeks.

He added via Malay Mail:

"YAB PM has announced it last night. Immigration Department will implement the decision. Starting tomorrow (Mar. 18), all Malaysians working in Singapore and Thailand will be prohibited from commuting to the countries."

Singapore government to provide accommodations for affected workers

In a bid to help Malaysian workers stuck in Singapore due to the lockdown, Singapore's Ministry of Manpower (MOM) announced on Mar. 17 that a range of short-term housing options will be available for them.

They can stay in hotels or dormitories.

In addition, there are also HDB rooms and whole flats, as well as private residential properties.
