Mainland China’s novel coronavirus death toll has hit 1,113 at the end of Tuesday, Feb. 11, after the hardest-hit province of Hubei reported 94 new fatalities, the country's National Health Commission said on Wednesday.

This includes 72 deaths in the provincial capital of Wuhan, where the virus first emerged.

Across mainland China, 2,015 new infections were confirmed on Tuesday, the lowest since Jan. 30.

New confirmed cases outside Hubei Province have dropped for eight consecutive days though.

It fell from 890 on Feb. 3 to 377 on Feb. 11, according to the National Health Commission.

The total so far has reached 44,653.

China's senior medical adviser said on Tuesday that the coronavirus outbreak in the country may be over by April, and the latest numbers of new cases may further feed that optimism.

The virus was officially named "Covid-19" at a conference in Geneva held by the World Health Organisation.

Its chief said countries had a chance of stopping the global spread of the virus.
