According to a press release on Feb. 10, 2020, Singapore's national water agency, PUB, has appointed Sembcorp to construct the nation's biggest floating solar farm on Tengeh Reservoir.
Solar farm expected to produce enough electricity to power 16,000 four-room flats
The floating solar farm, or photovoltaic (PV) system, in Tengeh Reservoir will be completed in 2021.
It will have a capacity of 60 megawatt-peak (MWp).
In simpler terms, the energy generated from the solar farm is expected to power about 16,000 four-room HDB flats.
The floating solar farm is expected to be as big as about 45 football fields.
In addition, it would reduce about 32 kilotonnes of carbon emissions, which would translate to taking 7,000 cars off the roads of Singapore.
Electricity produced from the solar farm will be used to power PUB's water treatment processes and could meet seven per cent of PUB's total energy needs.
More details on the PV system can be found here in PUB's post:
PUB's second project with Sembcorp
On Jun. 6, 2019, PUB requested for proposals from companies from the private sector for the large-scale floating solar farm.
Sembcorp beat local and overseas companies with its proposal to use highly efficient PV modules and proposed an optimised layout of the modules to maximise energy production.
This will be the second project where PUB is collaborating with Sembcorp.
The other project, which opened in 2010, is the Sembcorp Changi NEWater Plant.
