A WhatsApp message has been making the rounds in group chats on Feb. 13, suggesting a confirmed case of novel coronavirus (Covid-19) detected in the National University of Singapore (NUS).

NUS staff rumoured to be infected

The message wrote that an unnamed professor at the School of Design and Environment has been infected with Covid-19.

The news was shared after consulting with "Prof Wong" and the sender urges the group chat members to not panic and stay calm as NUS will be releasing a statement on what to do next.

The timestamp of the message was 7:48pm but the date was not stated.

NUS is aware

In response to Mothership's query on the WhatsApp message, the NUS spokesperson said that they are "aware of the speculation" and they are in touch with the authorities.

She also referred us to the following post, indicating that NUS has taken additional measures to ensure the safety and well-being of the community is safeguarded.

Instructors to take photos of face-to-face classes to show attendees

Mothership understands that an internal circular has been sent out on Feb. 13 morning to remind students and staff members to take note of any flu-like symptoms.

The email also stated that if anyone is unwell, they should seek medical help and stay at home until they are fully recovered.

Staff and students have to record and log in temperature twice daily and everyone should have their ID displayed while they are at campus.

An earlier circular sent on Feb. 8 also wrote that instructors have to take pictures of each face to face class they teach to show all attendees clearly.

The photos have to be kept for two weeks and will help with contact tracing.
