The DORSCON Orange level has prompted some people in Singapore to go into a buying frenzy.
Supermarket shelves all over Singapore have been cleared of daily essentials, like food and toilet paper.
"No need to stockpile"
In response to this, FairPrice has released a statement assuring the public that there is no need to stockpile.
They said that they have seen a sudden surge in the demand for groceries and personal hygiene products today (Feb. 7), resulting in stores temporarily running short of stock in some instances.
Some stores throughout the island have experienced high traffic volume.
Following this, FairPrice Group CEO Seah Kian Peng said there are available stocks in their warehouses and they are looking to send them to the stores.
He also "(called) for calm", saying that the supply of daily essentials remain available and will be dispatched.
"There really is no need to buy and stock up as we have supplies," he said.
This is his Facebook post:
They will be monitoring the situation closely and implement additional protocols where necessary, they added.
