To deal with the ongoing novel coronavirus outbreak, the Ministry of health (MOH) is currently conducting contact tracing to identify individuals who have had close contact with confirmed cases of the coronavirus.
However, it would appear that several individuals are taking advantage of the ongoing efforts to gather contact details from unsuspecting victims.
MOH issued warning against scammers
Cautionary messages have already been making its rounds on WhatsApp and other messaging platforms, warning users not to fall prey to such scammers.
These scammers claim that they are conducting contact tracing, but are actually trying to procure personal information from victims.
MOH has also warned the public not to fall prey to these scams through a Facebook post.
If an individual is unsure of whether the contact tracing call from MOH is real, he or she can verify the authenticity of the phone call by calling the MOH general hotline at 6325 9220.
