The first locally-transmitted case of 2019 novel coronavirus (nCoV) in Malaysia was announced by Health Minister Dzulkefly Ahmad on Feb. 6.
The patient is a 40-year-old woman, the sister of another patient with an earlier confirmed case of the virus.
According to the Malay Mail, they came into close contact when she returned to her hometown of Sungai Petani, Kedah for Chinese New Year on Jan. 23.
She was tracked down by the district health office after her brother tested positive for the virus.
Local transmission
Dzulkefly confirmed that the woman had no recent travel history to China.
She is currently being warded in Alor Setar, Kedah and is in a stable condition.
Her brother was the first Malaysian patient with a confirmed case of the virus.
He had visited Singapore's Grand Hyatt hotel for a business meeting.
14th confirmed case
Another confirmed case, Malaysia's 14th, was also announced by Dzulkefly.
This is a 37-year-old Chinese national in Malaysia on holiday from Wuhan, China -- the epicentre of the virus outbreak.
