China's Hunan hit by H5N1 bird flu amidst Wuhan virus outbreak, over 17,000 poultry killed

On Feb. 1, Chinese media Sina reported an outbreak of the H5N1 influenza virus in the Hunan province.

China's Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs announced on Feb. 1 that the outbreak occurred in Shuangqing district of Shaoyang city in Hunan.

H5N1 is a type of highly infectious influenza virus.

Some strains of H5N1 can be transmitted to humans.

The case occurred in a farm with 7,850 chickens.

Of those, 4,500 have been killed by the virus.

The local authorities have put in place the necessary preventive measures to manage the virus outbreak.

A total of 17,828 poultry has been culled in response.

On Feb. 1, the number of confirmed cases of the new coronavirus that originated from Wuhan has continued to increase.

Currently, there are over 10,000 confirmed cases in China.

Of these, 389 confirmed cases are reported in Hunan.
