Pakatan Harapan (PH) has no plans to approach Malaysia's Interim Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad as he has already left the coalition, Anwar Ibrahim said on Feb. 27, according to The Star.

His reply was given in response to a question on whether Pakatan had formerly split with Mahathir.

Anwar said: "No, we are still Pakatan Harapan, but he (Mahathir) has already left."

Relations with Mahathir's party still changing on daily basis

Relations with Mahathir's party, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu), are still fluctuating, Malaysiakini further reported.

When further asked if PH will accept Bersatu back into the coalition, Anwar added: "We change by the day."

Mahathir refused to commit to fulfilling PH's election manifesto

Separately, the secretary-general of the Democratic Action Party (DAP), Lim Guan Eng, stated that Mahathir had refused to commit to fulfilling PH's election promises.

This revelation came during a meeting Lim and Mahathir had on Feb. 25, in the wake of the government's collapse, Free Malaysia Today reported.

Lim added that the manifesto had been agreed upon despite differences between the coalition's partners and that it was on the basis of the manifesto which the coalition had headed to the polls.

Lim said: "At my meeting on Feb. 25, 2020, in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mahathir refused to remain as PH prime minister and refused to commit to fulfil and deliver PH’s general election manifesto."

Mahathir returns as chairman of his party

In the meantime, Mahathir has returned as chairman of his party once more, Malaysian media The Edge Markets reported.

This comes three days after he resigned from the post on Feb. 24.

Bersatu's supreme council stated that they had unanimously rejected the resignation on Feb. 25.

They then shared the outcome of the meeting with Mahathir, who eventually agreed to return as chairman "effective immediately".
