Retired NBA star Kobe Bryant, 41, dies in helicopter crash: US media

Kobe Bryant, one of the stars of the NBA championship-winning L.A. Lakers team, has reportedly died in a helicopter crash.

In the morning of Jan. 27, at around 3:45am (Singapore time), the LA Times reported that a helicopter carrying five people crashed in the city of Calabasas, California.

Entertainment news site TMZ confirmed that Bryant was on board the helicopter and had died in the crash.

TMZ also claimed that Bryant's wife Vanessa Bryant was not on board the helicopter.

ABC sports reporter Scott Abraham tweeted that the ABC affiliate in Los Angeles also confirmed that Bryant was killed in the crash.

The LA Times quoted an official from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), who said that they were conducting an investigation together with the National Transportation Safety Board.
