On Jan. 28, Facebook was served a Targeted Correction Direction under the Protection from Online Falsehoods and Manipulation Act (POFMA) by Minister for Transport Khaw Boon Wan.

Two users on Facebook had claimed that Woodlands MRT station would be shut down for disinfection on the same day due to a suspect case of the Wuhan virus.

Under the Targeted Correction Direction, Facebook was originally required to carry a Correction Notice on the two Facebook posts containing the falsehood.

As of Jan. 29, however, the posts have been deleted.

The posts previously had two likes and two shares respectively.

In response to queries by Mothership, Facebook confirms that it did not delete the posts.

This is the second time that the fake news law has been invoked on Facebook.

The previous Targeted Correction Direction was issued by Minister for Home Affairs, K Shanmugam, after socio-political site States Times Review claimed that the people behind the NUSSU Facebook page had been arrested.

Under the POFMA requirement, Facebook has to inform readers that the post contains false information.
