14 real reasons MINDEF is reluctant to allow camera phones in camps

Everyone who has served National Service will surely understand why.

On the 1st of September 2013, NSmen will be allowed to bring camera-equipped mobile phones into 15 more camps.

The 15 additional camps are:

1. Amoy Quee Camp

2. Bukit Panjang Camp

3. Dieppe Barracks

4. Jurong Camp I & III

5. Kaki Bukit Camp

6. Keat Hong Camp

7. Kranji Camp I

8. Lim Chu Kang Camp

9. Mandai Camp II

10. Mandai Hill Camp

11. Nee Soon Camp

12. Selarang Camp

13. Sembawang Camp

14. Stagmont Camp

15. Tanjong Gul Camp

This is a follow-up from a pilot programme the Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) started on the 1st of September last year, where camera phones were allowed to be brought into 14 camps.

MINDEF said this is to help NSmen better balance their In-Camp Training (ICT) duties with other commitments.

But here are 14 other reasons MINDEF is reluctant to allow camera phones in camps:

1. There is the real danger that NSFs look like girls in camera phone photos

2. NSFs will spend too much time on Instagram when in camp

3. Our neighbouring countries might not think much of us when they see some of the camera phone photos

4. No, honestly, they won't take us seriously when they see this

5. But then again, it could be because we might appear too hardcore at other times

6. Our aggressive stance can make our unprovoked neighbours uncomfortable

7. Who will then realise serving the nation is in reality just a phase

8. Because the excellent physique of the soldier is just as temporary

9. But more importantly, whatever happens in camp, should stay in camp

10. Because no one in public should actually witness such scenes

Unless you're enlisted.

11. Jokes aside, no photo ever taken in camp can justify how tough training really is

Just by looking at pictures, you can't smell the sweat.

12. Photos fail to convey the smell of mud to people's smartphone or laptop

If your camera phone could talk, it would be screaming "This is brutal!" at this picture.

13. Or the taste of blood

Because such manly things are not very family-friendly or suitable for public viewing.

14. Lastly, camera phones make it more likely to capture evidence of ghosts
