4 armed robbers hit KL gold shop, steals S$3.1 million worth of jewellery in 5 minutes
The men fled with 21 trays of gold weighing about 15kg.
The Kuala Lumpur police are searching for four suspects believed to have robbed a jewellery shop of gold worth RM9.7 million (S$3.1 million).
At about 11am on Apr. 16, the police received a distress call from the goldsmith located along Jalan Tun Sambanthan, a major road in Kuala Lumpur's Bricksfield district.
"Initial investigations found that four unidentified men entered the premises armed with two pistols before robbing the shop," the Kuala Lumpur police chief said, as quoted by The Star.
The men fled with 21 trays of gold weighing about 15kg.
They also seized a shotgun and a round of ammunition from a security guard on duty, the police chief added.
The security guard was reportedly attacked, according to Malay Mail.
CCTV footage
Clips from the shop's CCTV footage, circulating online, showed how the daylight robbery unfolded.
Four men wearing helmets rushed at the security guard sitting outside before making their way into the shop.
Inside, two of the men took their time unlocking the counters and bringing out the jewellery.
They stuffed some of the gold into bags, but also held many openly in their arms as they walked out of the shop and into a white car.
Everything was completed in under five minutes.
The case is being investigated as an armed gang robbery, and the police are currently working to track down the suspects.
