Man casually pockets S$1,000 of jewellery at Woodlands stall, owner had reportedly gone to toilet
Low crime doesn't mean no crime.
A man in dark glasses was seen apparently pocketing several items of jewellery from a Woodlands stall in broad daylight.
The owner had apparently gone to the restroom at the time.
A member of public, speaking on behalf of the shop owner, shared CCTV footage of the incident with Mothership.
The owner has since lodged a police report, the person said.
The incident
The incident took place at Blk 303 Woodlands Street 31, in the morning of Mar. 24.
The video showed a man in dark glasses and holding an umbrella, appearing to walk past a stall.
The stall's display was covered with two pieces of fabric.
After walking past the stall, the man doubled back and lifted a corner of the fabric cover.

He then appeared to pocket several items, including a silver chain.

As he did so, some passers-by walked past the stall without noticing his behaviour.
The stall next to the one he was at was also surrounded by shoppers, who appeared oblivious to the apparent theft.
After removing a few items from the display, the man adjusted the fabric cover back and casually walked off.

The Mothership reader said that the owner later discovered that five silver necklaces were missing from the shop.
The owner lodged a police report on the same day.
Worth S$1,000
A shop assistant at a nearby hardware store told Shin Min Daily News that the missing jewellery was worth around S$1,000.
The owner had left to use the restroom for around five minutes, she said.
The whole theft took under a minute.
In response to Mothership's queries, the Singapore Police Force confirmed that they were alerted to the case of theft.
A 58-year-old man is assisting with investigations.
Police investigations are ongoing.
