WhatsappA Brazilian woman has been acquitted of killing her boyfriend after catching him attempting to sexually assault her 11-year-old daughter.

Erica Pereira da Silveria Vicente, who also cut off the man's genitals and set fire to his body, said she acted in defence of her daughter.

She first noticed alarming texts her boyfriend, Everton Amaro de Silva, sent her daughter, then found him on top of the pre-teen attempting to rape her, according to the New York Post.

Upon the discovery, Vicente allegedly spiked de Silva's drink with Klonopin, a drug used to treat seizures, then stabbed and clubbed him while he was unconscious.

With the help of a teen, she carried the body to a wasteland in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, then cut off his genitals and set fire to his body.

Vicente was caught after police followed a trail of blood to her apartment, where she surrendered the knife and confessed to the killing.

She insisted she only did it to save her daughter, however.

Prosecutors argued that the brutality of Vicente's actions proved it was carried out "not in blind rage" but with premeditation, but the jury accepted Vicente's argument.

After a year in prison, she was acquitted on Mar. 24 of aggravated homicide and for destroying a corpse, just one day after giving her testimony.
