A former host of a food programme that promoted Hakka cuisine was recently found dead in his home bathroom after reportedly exerting excessive force.
This supposedly led to cardiogenic shock, according to CTiTV.
Friend went to visit
The incident occurred on Mar. 14, 2026, Lianhe Zaobao reported, adding that Qiu Jinwei's (transliterated) friend went to visit him at his residence.
Upon arrival, Qiu's friend knocked several times but was met with no response. He also heard a phone ringing from inside the house.
His friend realised something was wrong and immediately called the police and fire department for assistance.
No signs of life
Following this, police and firefighters who broke down the door found Qiu lying in the bathroom and reportedly not showing signs of life.
Qiu's family said that he had a pre-existing heart condition.
A forensic examination preliminarily determined the cause of death to be sudden cardiac arrest, Zaobao reported.
Promoted Hakka cuisine
Prior to his death, Qiu dedicated himself to promoting Hakka cuisine and culture, Zaobao reported, adding that he also travelled to demonstrate and teach Hakka cooking.
Hakka Television also issued a statement expressing its deep sorrow: "Hakka Television is deeply saddened and reluctant to learn of the passing of our former partner, and extends its deepest condolences."
