The founder and owner of Authentic Mun Chee Kee King of Pig's Organ Soup revealed that despite offers of more than S$500,000 for his business with the condition that he stay on for a year or two, he refused, citing his wish to retire.

On Feb. 28, the last day of business operations, David Tan told Shinmin Daily News that at least five groups of buyers attempted to purchase his business.

The 60-year-old Tan said his retirement plan was to travel to China and South America. Since work was never-ending, he decided the best option was to just close down the stall.

The restaurant also made the difficult decision to close after a 35 per cent dip in sales following its relocation from its original premises in April 2024.

Sales dipped by 35%, and costs rose

The business used to occupy a space in a shophouse at 207 Jalan Besar in 2011 and operated until 2024.

After inspections by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA) in 2024, Tan had to vacate as the foundation needed repairs.

Their new location at 65 Maude Road was just a four-minute walk away, but sales plunged.

The shop will be taken over by Ocean Curry Fish Head, whose owner, Tay Cheng Siong, 70, is a close friend of Tan.

After learning of the shop's impending closure two months ago, Tay decided to take over the space.

Some of Tan's long-time employees will start selling offal soup in Jurong West next month.
