Faishal Ibrahim calls Iran strikes 'failure of diplomacy', seeks de-escalation
"In this blessed month, we pray for the safety of innocent people, and for calm and wisdom to prevail," he said.
The strikes on Iran and Lebanon are a "failure of diplomacy", which has escalated tensions in the Middle East, said Acting Minister-in-charge of Muslim Affairs Faishal Ibrahim.
He added that the conflict bears "serious consequences for civilians".
During a Feb. 28 doorstop, after Israel launched a "pre-emptive" strike on Iran, Faishal called for de-escalation and respect for international law.
"In this blessed month, we pray for the safety of innocent people, and for calm and wisdom to prevail," he said.
He added that Singapore is "monitoring developments closely".
Strikes across Middle East
The initial strike has triggered exchanges of fire across the Middle East, with the United States and Israel attacking Iran, and Iran retaliating in an "unprecedented" attack.
Several countries, including Israel, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Jordan, and Kuwait, have been targeted by Iranian missile strikes.
At least one person has been killed in the UAE.
In the meantime, explosions have also been heard in multiple Iranian cities, including in the capital, Tehran.
Israel's strikes on Iran reportedly targeted senior Iranian figures, including Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, armed forces chief of staff Sayyid Abdolrahim Mousavi, and president Masoud Pezeshkian, reported CNN.
