Raybe Oh, who sustained burns on 80 per cent of her body while attempting to rescue her fiance from a burning car wreckage in Tanjong Pagar in 2021, made her getai comeback on Feb. 27.

The 32-year-old performed at the Zhenghua Community Club, next to Bukit Panjang's Greenridge Shopping Centre, to a packed audience.

Those in attendance included her mother and a burn unit nurse who cared for her during her hospitalisation at Singapore General Hospital (SGH).

Getai comeback

Oh made her guest appearance on stage at about 8:30pm on Friday evening to applause and cheers, according to 8world.

Clips of her performance showed her clad in a black and white outfit, while donning a black mask and gloves.

She performed four Mandarin songs, "Firecrackers and Springtime on Earth", "I Only Care About You", "Too Much", and "Silent Ending".

Special audience members

Oh's mother was among her supporters in the crowd.

She told reporters that she was happy to see her daughter return to the stage after a long hiatus.

The second song that Oh performed, Teresa Teng's "I Only Care About You", was reportedly dedicated to her mother, a fan of the legendary singer.

Oh's mother was joined by the head nurse of SGH's burn unit, who cared for Oh during her four-month hospitalisation following the 2021 incident.

The nurse made a surprise visit after finding out about her former patient's performance on the news, and the pair was seen in an emotional embrace after the show.

Both Oh's mother and the nurse reflected on being there for Oh during the most difficult days of her life, saying that she deserved to keep moving forward.

Oh's polytechnic classmates were also present at the performance alongside their families.

One of them told 8world that she had always told Oh to keep going as "things will get better and better".

"(She) is very capable and strong. This process was not easy," the classmate said.

Enjoying the present moment

Regarding her own performance, Oh gave herself a score of 60 out of 100.

There was room for improvement, she said, after forgetting some lyrics and struggling with high notes out of nervousness.

Nonetheless, she reflected on her excitement about returning to the stage after five years, saying that seeing the support of the important people in her life touched her.

The former Singapore Airlines flight stewardess previously told the media that she was nervous about returning to the stage to perform, while feeling like everything has changed since she was last performing.

For example, she can no longer wear the clothes she used to wear on stage, and she does not know what the audience's listening preferences are now.

Her road back to the stage was also long and arduous due to the injuries she suffered, which damaged her throat.

Her scars have also restricted the movement of her mouth.

In the year leading up to the performance, she reportedly ran three times a week, half an hour each time, and sang in her bathroom for 20 minutes each day to improve her lung capacity.

As she still struggles with high notes, she has to settle on singing the songs a half pitch lower.

Oh said her plan is to enjoy the present and that she hopes to no longer make her family worry about her.
