What was supposed to be a somber event in Thailand turned into a wholesome one after several travellers mistook the ceremony for a restaurant.

A funeral on Jan. 31 in the Nakhon Si Thammarat city became viral after a video shared by Facebook user Charantorn Chareomkiad showed his family welcoming the foreigners with food.

According to Thaiger, the tourists ended up apologising and thanking the hosts for their hospitality.

Two foreign men joined funeral, serve food and water nonetheless

In the clip, two Caucasian men could be seen sitting at a table for funeral guests.

A woman was later seen serving them drinking water.

"Are they thinking that this is a buffet?" Charantorn reportedly joked in the background.

He later allowed his family to continue serving food to the duo.

According to Thaiger, his family said that the tourists were told that they had entered a funeral instead of a restaurant.

The two men reportedly apologised, and expressed gratitude for the meal and family's hospitality.

More tourists mistook funeral for eatery

However, this wasn't the only misunderstanding encountered at the funeral.

On Feb. 1, another three Dutch male tourists entered the space with the intention to get drinks, but later learned that it was a funeral.

Another video shared by Charantorn showed a group of Thai men talking to the foreign men at their table, before two Thai women transferred food from a large tray onto the table.

Another person also told them that the food was "a little spicy".

According to Thaiger, his caption read: "They asked us whether it is a restaurant or not. Anyway, we served them food. They were surprised and happy."

Mixed reactions

The family's hospitality garnered traction and differing views online.

Some Thai users were reportedly entertained by the tourists' confusion while others were wary of their behaviour, adding that the family should not have encouraged them.

However, many praised the hosts for their kindness and noted that such gestures are simply part of Thai culture.
