French nationals in Phuket filmed having sex at back of tuk tuk, deported & blacklisted from Thailand

Thai authorities are to deport and blacklist several French nationals who were arrested after they were caught having sex on a tuk tuk in Phuket.

Not family friendly

The incident took place on Jan. 29, in the Patong area of Phuket, according to Thaiger, and was recorded by a Thai motorist.

The motorist was travelling behind the French couple’s tuk tuk when they noticed that the individuals were undressing and engaging in sexual activity.

Thaiger reported that other drivers on the road were shocked when they noticed what was going on in the tuk tuk.

​The motorist uploaded the video onto social media, where it quickly went viral, with many criticising those involved for spoiling Phuket’s “family-friendly” image.

Three's a crowd

Local police soon launched an investigation into the incident.

Thai social media, translated from Thai, said that a French couple were involved in the incident, named as one “Mr Wesley” and “Ms Valen”.

However, pictures on social media show three individuals were involved in police proceedings: a woman and two men.

Reports on social media also indicate that a threesome had taken place at the back of the tuk tuk, which probably didn’t help their case.

But a post on the Kathu Police Station's Facebook page showed two individuals, a man and a woman.

The individuals were subsequently arrested and charged with committing a shameful act in a public place by exposing the body or engaging in other obscene behaviour, an offence that carries a fine of up to 5000 baht (S$201).

Blacklisted

But that was not the full extent of their punishment.

Immigration officials soon revoked their visas and they were added to Thailand’s immigration blacklist, which will prevent them from returning to Thailand for up to a decade.

The individuals will reportedly be deported after paying their fine.

Public debate on the matter indicates that this would be one of the few times that individuals involved in such lewd acts will actually face consequences for their actions.

Thaiger reports that despite a number of similar cases involving foreigners having sex in public places or on public transport, most have managed to leave the country before facing legal sanction.
