Two men will be charged on Feb. 4 after six human skeletons, including five reportedly belonging to one family, were found in a burned and abandoned house in Johor, Malaysia.

According to Bernama, Johor police chief Ab Rahaman Arsad said the husband of one of the deceased filed a report at the Iskandar Puteri district police headquarters (IPD) on Jan. 9 after he discovered the remains in an oil palm plantation in Skudai.

Remains of children found

The remains included those of a 19-year-old girl, 29-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman.

The remains of one two-year-old boy and two girls aged nine and five were also found, and are believed to be the dead woman's children.

In a press conference on Feb. 3, Ab Rahaman said that the husband, 48, had found the skeletons while searching for his missing wife and children.

He was informed that his family had been staying in the secluded house, which did not have electricity or water supply.

Johor authorities said that the six people may have died more than three months ago.

Four people arrested, two to be charged

Following further investigations, local police arrested three men and one woman, aged between 19 and 35, around Iskandar Puteri on Jan. 21.

All four people have prior criminal records, and three tested positive for drugs.

Two of the men will be charged for suspected murder at the Johor Bahru Magistrate's Court on Feb. 4.

The other two suspects will be called as prosecution witnesses.

Ab Rahaman said that the motive of the crime would be established during court proceedings.

Those found guilty may face the death penalty or jailed up to 40 years, and given at least 12 strokes of the cane.
