A man from Malaysia allegedly raped a domestic worker while reportedly impersonating a police officer.

Sharveen Chetty, 48, faces two charges of rape and one count of impersonating a police officer in 2022, CNA reported.

On Feb. 3, he went on trial in the High Court to contest the charges, having pleaded not guilty.

According to CNA, Chetty was an employee of SBS Transit at the time.

In response to Mothership's queries, SBS Transit stated that Chetty is no longer their employee, and they have not employed Chetty for more than three years.

Impersonate a police officer

Chetty was on patrol duty on Jul. 11, 2022, when he noticed the victim with her friends and her boyfriend at a grass patch near Little India, said the prosecution.

He then reportedly posed as a police officer and asked for their identification documents, CNA reported.

Chetty allegedly used his body-worn camera issued by SBS Transit for his job to pretend he was scanning their work permits.

He then asked for the victim's identification and took her papers and her phone.

Chetty told her group to stay while asking the victim to follow him.

He apparently took her to some bushes and kissed her. He also threatened to cause trouble for her and her friends when she resisted him.

CNA stated that Chetty allegedly forced the victim to perform a sexual act on him before raping her.

The victim then returned to her friends and told them Chetty was not a real police officer. They called the real police.

According to CNA, Chetty's DNA was found on areas of the victim's underwear as well as on her thigh.

If found guilty of rape, Chetty could serve a jail term of up to 20 years and be caned or fined.

For impersonating a public servant, Chetty could be jailed for up to two years, fined or both.

His trial continues and is due back in court on Feb. 4 at 10 am.
