6 Thailand airports to increase passenger service charge on outbound international flights to S$45 from May 2026
For international departures only.
Thailand is set to increase its passenger service charge (PSC) to 1,120 baht (S$45) at six main airports from May 2026.
According to Bangkok Post, Airports of Thailand (AOT) president Paweena Jariyathitipong said that the hike will be imposed on international flights departing from Suvarnabhumi (Bangkok), Don Mueang (Bangkok), Phuket, Hat Yai, Chiang Mai and Chiang Rai.
53 per cent increase unlikely to affect passenger numbers
Currently, travellers leaving the six airports face a PSC of 730 baht (S$29).
Paweena said that the Thailand Civil Aviation Board has approved the increase in principle, and the plan is pending final approval from the Thailand transport minister.
Once approved in May 2026, those departing from the six airports will pay 1,120 baht.
Fees for domestic flights will remain unchanged.
Paweena said that the 53 per cent hike is unlikely to affect passenger numbers.
She added that travel decisions are often more influenced by flight ticket prices and overall travel expenses, based on international studies on PSC levels.
Paweena noted that unlike many other countries, Thailand does not impose charges on inbound and transit passengers.
Airports to be improved with revenue
The revised charge is expected to generate around 10 billion baht (S$402,000) per year.
Authorities will then utilise the revenue to improve airport security and amenities, including toilets as well as power and air-conditioning systems.
She added that part of the additional revenue would be retained as accumulated profit to help fund new projects and reduce the burden of loan interest.
