Better late than never.
A 72-year-old woman in Penang, Malaysia won RM40.29 million (S$13 million) in lottery on Jan. 28, after having played the lottery since the 1980s.
According to a congratulatory Facebook post by Malaysia lottery company STM Lottery Sdn Bhd on Feb. 2, the housewife struck the Supreme Toto 6/58 jackpot with six matching numbers.
According to The Sun Malaysia, she also won an additional amount of RM173,152 (S$55,775) as a lottery bonus.
"Will continue living a simple life"
The post indicated that the woman had bought her ticket for RM420 (S$135) at the Tanjung Bungah branch on Jan. 28.
She later won RM40.1 million (S$12 million) with six numbers in the System 10 "Lucky Pick" ticket — 19, 29, 32, 39, 40, and 54.
The woman said that she "could not sleep" on the night of the draw, and checked her ticket in the wee hours.
When she realised that she had won, she "was so excited" that she "could not sleep".
Despite her big winnings, the woman said that she "will continue living a simple life".
Her husband also said that they are "thankful" for the "big ang pow" before the Chinese New Year, and that they will "share some" with their family before saving the remaining money for "long-term stability".
Bought ticket during grocery run
The woman also earned an extra RM173,152 (S$55,775) from the System Play bonus, reported The Sun Malaysia.
With the bonus, her total winnings added up to over RM40.29 million (S$13 million).
The woman had bought the ticket at the same branch since the 1980s, and did so while doing her routine grocery shopping.
