A Malaysian policewoman known online as "Inspector Sheila", was arrested for allegedly disturbing public order at the Batu Caves.

On Feb. 1, the woman whose real name is Sheila Sharon Steven Kumar, was arrested and remanded for a day, reported The Star.

Videos of her arrest went viral on social media, including one where she said that the police were jealous of her popularity.

In both videos, Kumar was seen being detained by two female police officers, expressing her outrage at her arrest.

Addressing onlooking crowd

In the first video, addressing onlookers, Kumar yelled, "I cooperated, there was no need to handcuff me. They took me outside the temple in handcuffs".

In the second video, Kumar, who was still waiting, said "until now the management team doesn't know what to do with me, where to take me".

She alleged that the police officers were "still smoking".

She ended her tirade by saying, "Inspector Sheila will become even more famous among Malaysians. Thank you for arresting me on this holy day, Thaipusam".

Altercation with several traders

Inspector-General of Police Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail said Kumar was arrested following an altercation between her and several traders near the temple at around 4am, reported The Star.

Khalid, who was speaking at a community policing programme at the Sri Subramaniar Swarmy Temple, said Malaysian police stepped in to de-escalate the situation and ensure public order was maintained during the celebrations.

Kumar is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code and Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act for obstructing a public servant in the discharge of their duties.

The Malaysian police also invoked Section 14 of the Minor Offences Act 1955, which covers actions intended to insult the modesty of an individual, reported Malay Mail.

Kumar was remanded and released on bail the same day.

Investigations are ongoing.
