Affected customers of Nanyang Optical can seek assistance from Capitol Optical & Lenskart
The companies will review the situation on a case-by-case basis.
In the wake of Nanyang Optical's voluntary liquidation on Jan. 26, several eyewear retailers have reached out to offer assistance to affected customers.
Those affected included a customer, who made a S$1,800 prepaid contact lens order, and got stuck in limbo after she found out that the Northpoint outlet she patronised was winding up, Mothership reported.
So far, at least two eyewear businesses, Capitol Optical and Lenskart, have contacted Mothership to express interest in helping affected customers.
Capitol Optical to match customer's original purchase
Capitol Optical, a homegrown brand with 58 years of history and 18 stores islandwide, is said it "will provide support for uncollected orders at affected Nanyang Optical stores":
"Matching each customer’s original purchase dollar for dollar, with support not exceeding S$1,000 worth per person, with S$20,000 worth of optical products. We hope this helps reassure affected customers, demonstrates our commitment to standing with the community during this challenging time, and instil confidence in local optical retailers."
Capitol Optical added that it is keen to step in and help customers who have placed advanced orders, particularly for long-term purchases, such as contact lenses, as it is a long-standing optical retailer.
It added: "There are no hidden costs; all assistance is provided exactly as outlined."
Capitol Optical stated that assistance will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis to customers with receipts dated between Dec. 20, 2025 and Jan. 26, 2026.
This assistance is limited to one submission per receipt per person for the uncollected purchase only, said Capitol Optical, adding that it is "calculated on a dollar-for-dollar basis based on the amount they actually paid to Nanyang Optical for their original and uncollected purchase" in the form of a deposit or full payment.
Lenskart offering assistance & recruitment
Lenskart said it "will provide full cash credits to match the customer's original purchase".
Lenskart will not impose a cap or limit on how many affected customers they will help.
Lenskart is also offering to help affected customers and employees, specifically, opticians and optometrists, by hiring them.
The brand will be launching two new stores and will require additional manpower, it added.
Lenskart added that it was "fortunate to see exponentially growing support from the local community, and the last thing we want is customers to be affected by the changing landscape of this industry".
Customers to fill in Google Form
Capitol Optical has provided a Google Form for affected customers to fill in.
Submissions would be reviewed in sequence, and eligible customers would be contacted to schedule an eye check and product selection at the stores.
Customers may contact Capitol Optical at [email protected] for further enquiries.
Lenskart said affected customers can reach out to them at +65 8668 6210 or [email protected] for assistance.
Affected employees can also reach out to Lenskart using the same email.
Both companies require affected customers to produce a valid proof of purchase, like an e-receipt or a deposit slip.
Customers would also need to provide context of their situation, such as what had transpired leading to the loss and what actions were taken to retrieve their order.
The companies will review the situation on a case-by-case basis.
