S'pore theatre company Pangdemonium to close by end-2026 after over 15 years
Bowing out with a pang.
Singapore theatre company Pangdemonium will have its final bow at the end of 2026.
The company was founded by husband-and-wife team Adrian and Tracie Pang in 2010.
On Feb. 2, the couple announced their decision on the Pangdemonium website, emphasising that it was "purely a personal decision".
"As the Founders and Artistic Directors of a company bearing our family name, the Pangdemonium chapter of our lives is coming to a close, and it is time to let a good thing go."
Pangdemonium productions ranged from contemporary plays and musicals to original commissions.
They produce their own version of West End plays and Broadway musicals for the Singaporean audience, such as Dear Evan Hansen.
"In short, we have done our best to take people on 'a**-kicking adventures in theatre', and that has given us the most gratification, purpose and joy."
Thanked team, patrons & followers
Pangdemonium was the first and only Singapore theatre company to announce an annual season in conjunction with its season ticket.
The company also held youth mentorship programmes in performance, writing, stage management, and production.
Adrian, 60, and Tracie, 58, thanked their team, patrons and followers for supporting them throughout their 16-year run, especially during the pandemic, "when live theatre went dark and the aftermath of that period has resulted in increased costs of materials and services".
The couple also cited "the proliferation of online media" as a key challenge for the theatre industry globally.
However, despite these challenges, the couple highlighted that the decision was theirs.
"We just want to call an end to the Pangdemonium story on our own terms, on a grace note, and while we are still in love."
The company's final season will begin in March 2026 and will include Force Majeure, A Mirror and Come from Away.
"We have always believed that every single individual who embraces some kind of art form, whether as a working professional, an avid hobbyist, or a passionate patron, will have their life enriched - we hope our work has done a bit of that for you."
CEO for the National Arts Council (NAC), Low Eng Teong, said he had met and held open discussions with Pangdemonium to explore its continuation.
He added: "Ultimately, we respect the decision by Adrian and Tracie Pang to cease operations of Pangdemonium at the end of 2026 for personal reasons."
"While Pangdemonium concludes this chapter at the height of its success, its legacy of excellence endures. We invite everyone to celebrate the company’s final season and thank Adrian and Tracie for their immense contribution to our cultural landscape."
