A Scoot flight from Kuala Lumpur to Singapore on Feb. 9 was cancelled after a technical fault could not be resolved before departure.

In a TikTok video posted on Feb. 10, the user, who was believed to be on board, appeared to be disembarking via passenger stairs from a Scoot aircraft and heading towards a bus on the tarmac.

The user also alleged that passengers waited on board for about five hours.

Technical fault detected, affected passengers provided with accommodation and refreshments

In response to Mothership's queries, Scoot said a “technical fault” was identified on the Scoot flight TR497, which was scheduled to depart Kuala Lumpur for Singapore at 10pm that Monday.

The airline said the flight was eventually cancelled as engineers required more time to rectify the issue.

It added that affected passengers were provided with accommodation, refreshments, as well as on-ground transport.

Data from flight tracking website FlightAware indicated that the aircraft operating the service that day was a Boeing 787-8.

Scoot said passengers were rebooked on alternative flights where possible. Those who opted not to proceed with their travel plans were offered full refunds.

In an interview with The Straits Times, one of the passengers on the cancelled flight, Mehdi Bensouda Korachi, 42, said travellers were informed while on board that there was an issue with the aircraft’s brakes.

Mehdi said they were told that ground crew required more time to resolve the issue.

At about 1am, they were informed that the flight would be cancelled after remaining on board the plane for at least three hours.

He added that a bus arrived at around 2am to ferry passengers back to the terminal.

More than 200 passengers were affected by the cancellation, including some with flight connections to make in Singapore, Mehdi said.
