Another eight drivers were recently caught for providing illegal cross-border ride-hailing services at land checkpoints.

All their vehicles were seized and impounded.

The Land Transport Authority (LTA) announced this in a Feb. 11, 2026 Facebook post, adding that this came amid continued enforcement efforts and tip-offs from the National Private Hire Vehicles Association and National Taxi Association.

Protect local drivers' livelihoods

Senior Minister of State for Transport Sun Xueling wrote in a Feb. 11 Facebook post that the recent clampdown is "part of our ongoing enforcement efforts to protect our local drivers' livelihoods and to keep commuters safe".

Sun said that with the festive season approaching, cross-border travel demand is expected to increase.

"Please travel safely and responsibly!" she added.

Sun also advised members of the public to "book only licensed cross-border taxi services from ComfortDelGro, Strides Premier, Trans-Cab and Prime" as "these taxis can pick [them] up anywhere in Singapore, with drop-offs at Larkin Sentral Terminal, Johor".

"We're working closely with Malaysian authorities to make cross-border travel safer and more convenient," she said.

Penalties

Those caught providing illegal ride-hailing services face up to S$3,000 fines and/or six months' jail, and possible vehicle forfeiture.

Members of the public who spot illegal ride-hailing services can report them online.
