Two security guards recently came to the aid of an elderly woman who felt faint while at Jurong Lake Gardens.

A Mothership reader, who gave her name as Ashiqah, said that the family had brought her grandmother, 75, out for a walk at the gardens on Feb. 8.

It was a "special visit" as it was the woman's first trip there, despite having lived at Jurong her entire life.

However, during the walk, she suddenly began to feel unwell, painting heavily and appearing weak.

As she suffers from chronic health conditions like diabetes and high blood pressure, the family became "extremely worried" and tried looking for help.

But as it was past 9pm, there was no-one nearby, Ashiqah said.

Called for help

As they made their way toward the Japanese Garden entrance, they saw a security contact number displayed on a signboard.

Ashiqah called the number and a staff member promptly dispatched two security officers to the elderly woman's assistance.

The officers, Bala and Akbar, arrived in a buggy "within minutes" to escort the Ashiqah's grandmother to the exit.

"The way they spoke gently to my grandmother and ensured she was safely transported truly touched me," Ashiqah said.

She added that their calmness and professionalism helped reassure the anxious family members.

"It felt like help arrived exactly when we needed it most."

Grandma now recovering

After arriving at the carpark, the family brought the elderly woman home, where she rested and gradually felt better.

"Thankfully, she has recovered well and is back to her normal self now," Ashiqah said.

She added that while she was not able to contact Bala and Akbar afterwards, she hopes to convey her appreciation to them by reaching out through the media.

"In a situation that could have easily escalated into a medical emergency, their actions made all the difference," she said.

"Through this message, I would really like to say thank you to both of them again."
